The final meeting of the Washita Chapter NSDAR for this year was held on May at the Café Clinton with the Regent Kay Hagerman assisted by the Chaplain Robetha Farris. The group participated in The American’s Creed, The Pledge of Allegiance, The Preamble to the Constitution, a patriotic song and the Oklahoma Flag Salute.
The Honorary State Regent, Nancy Lisle, was acknowledged and welcomed.
The President’s Message, given by Doris Minor, focused on the events for the “Celebrate Stars and Strips”, including events related the 250th anniversary of our country.
She told the group of the special Christmas season in 1919 when John Phillip Sousa and his sixty-five-member band performed in the Tabernacle inEnid,OK. Sousareturned again to Enid and was twice sponsored by the ladies of the DAR in 1921 and1925.
The ancestor of Barbara O’Neill, Adam Scheurer was acknowledged.
Ellena Womack reported an article from the American Legion Magazine which highlighted the organizations involvement in the creation of a National Service Animals Memorial in Washington D.C.
