High Temps and Low Scores All at the Kiwanis Golf Tournament

The temperatures soared as the scores stayed low for the annual Sayre Kiwanis Fundraising Golf Tournament. The tournament was played at the Sayre National Golf Course on Saturday May 24th. The shot-gun start was at 9:00 am. Before the start Elmo May of Sayre gave a short presentation about the history of the Memorial Day Holiday. Jon Bawden led the crowd in a prayer and Golf Chairperson Craig Puckett graciously thanked the players and sponsors and then started the tournament.

Lisa Prentiss, Sayre Kiwanis Club President says, “without the help of our generous sponsors and faithful volunteers this event would not be possible. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and provides the funds to support the youth of our community.” Players were provided with free food for the entire day which is graciously donated by Interbank and cooked by the famous Grill Committee of Keith Carter, Wayne Wheeler, Carl Don Campbell and Gary Manning.

Winners of the tournament were as follows: FLIGHT A 1st Place – was a Split between Denton Jones and Greg Simmons / Cole Hammon and Rocky Willis ; a tie for third between Justin Twyman and Jason Keiner/ U’Vonna Williamson and Jack Coody.

FLIGHT B 1st Place - Teagen Counts and Drake Logan; 2nd Place Trey Rippetoe and David Hill; 3rd Place Eddie Lakey and Danny Crabb FLIGHT C 1st Place-Clint Lippencott and Chris Bailey; 2nd Place Gary Don Burrows and 3rd Place was Jay Manning and Chance Silas This was the fifteenth year of the golf tournament, and the Kiwanis Club donates the monies raised to several different youth events of the community. It is worth noting that one golfer, U’Vonna Williamson (A Flight 3rd Place) has played in the tournament every single year it has been held. “It is people like her that keep this fundraiser going year after year”, says Prentiss.
