Oklahoma City- Two team members of the Sinor EMS medical staff have won the equivalent of the State Championship in an EMS skills competition known as the SIM Games. This annual competition is held at the Heroes In the Heartland First Responders’ Conference which recently concluded at the OKC Convention Center. James Livingston, EMR and Grant Spillman, NREMT competed against 15 other EMS teams from across the state. Teams were presented a simulated emergency scenario and judged for their ability to appropriately assess, control, treat and make appropriate and timely medical decisions to elicit most positive patient outcomes.
This team qualified to represent our EMS agency, Sinor EMS, at the SIM Games by first competing in and winning the hotly contested SEMS SIM Games during 2025 EMS Week festivities in May. Their win secured a slot to compete in OKC against teams which consisted of both dual Paramedics as well as Paramedic/ Flight Nurse teams. Although they may have been perceived as the underdog team, what transpired was a flawless performance, causing all others to play for second. There was a buzz in the hallways from the judging staff, which consisted of eight trauma physicians and a flight nurse quality assurance officer, due to their impeccable showing in the opening elimination round.
The final was held on stage in the main exhibit hall. Team SEMS was the first to compete. It was obvious to all on-lookers after their scenario, which included a patient suffering from seizures, that the competition was over.
We could not be more proud of James and Grant. They exhibit the traits of dedicated, highly-trained professionals who love their profession and greatly value the lives of those they serve. Western Oklahoma is the home of many fine emergency medical professionals, but only James and Grant hold the title of State Champs.
