SWODA Awarded Grant To Address Transportation Barriers In Southwest Oklahoma

Burns Flat, OK —The South Western Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) has received a new grant in partnership with Hunger Free Oklahoma to improve transportation access for families across rural Southwest Oklahoma.

The funding supports a regional initiative focused on helping WIC (Women, Infant & Children) clients to access WIC appointments and for grocery shopping and/or farmers markets. The project will launch enhanced transportation efforts in Tillman, Jackson, and Harmon counties.

“This effort is about meeting people where they are— both literally and figuratively,” said Cristi Williams, Mobility Manager at SWODA. “By informing our residents about flexible transportation options and localized outreach, we can help ensure families have access to the resources they need.”

The project includes direct ride coordination, mileage reimbursements, and collaboration with local service providers to promote awareness and assistance. In addition to offering support for individual transportation needs, SWODA will help develop educational materials and community outreach in collaboration with regional partners.
