You may have heard many things about the “church of Christ”. Butwhatdoweactually believeandteach? For one thing, we are not trying to divide Christ’s body into just another denomination. Actually, the opposite is true. We are committed to only teach the unity that Jesus prayed for the night of his betrayal in John chapter 17.
Going back to the Bible, “churches of Christ” (Romans 16:16) is a descriptive phrase the apostle Paul used for congregations of Jesus’ church (Matthew 16:18). The only divinely given name is Christian (Act 11:16). But, we are NOT the “Christian Church” denomination. ALL that have sincerely obeyed the gospel of Christ (Romans 6:16-17; 2 Thessalonians chapter 1), have been saved, added by God to His church (Acts 2). We are simply a local congregation of Christians, striving to be what our Lord Jesus has revealed in His word, nothing more, nothing less.
Jesus taught in a parable, that the word of God is like “seed”, and human hearts are liketheground, orsoil. “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. “(Luke 8:15).
We believe in being just Christians today, as they were in the New Testament, by planting only the seed of God’s word. God has supplied the pure seed that will bring us to HIM and to the atoningbloodofJesus. We are doing nothing more than striving to be the “good ground” needed for that seed to bear fruit.
