Summer Science Project: Make Your Own Recycled Water Blaster

Summer Science Project: Make Your Own Recycled Water Blaster

As we come to the end of our Summer Science Project series, let’s make something that’s sure to bring a splash of fun—literally. This one will need a little extra parent supervision. If your mom or dad has a hot glue gun, ask them to help you. The same goes for super glue—always get an adult to handle it. Glue can burn or stick to your skin, so be careful not to touch your fingers with it.

What You’ll Need: A clean, empty spray bottle with its sprayer and tube An empty plastic water bottle Hot glue gun or strong super glue (adult use only) A small nail or awl to make a hole Water How to Make It: Clean the Spray Nozzle – Make sure your spray bottle is completely clean so no soap or chemicals are left inside.

Make a Hole – With adult help, poke a small hole near the bottom of your water bottle. The hole should be just big enough for the spray bottle’s tube to fit through.

Attach the Tube – Push the tube from the spray nozzle through the hole so it reaches inside the bottle.

Seal the Hole – Have your parent use hot glue or super glue to seal the area around the tube so no water leaks out. Let it dry completely.

Fill and Spray – Fill the bottle with water, screw on the spray top, and you’re ready for action!

How It Works: Spray bottles use a small pump inside the nozzle to pull water up through the tube. When you squeeze the trigger, the pump pushes the water out in a powerful spray. By attaching the sprayer to a larger bottle, you can hold more water and blast for longer before refilling.

Safety Tips: Always have an adult handle the glue and hole-making tools.

Only spray outside. Don’t spray toward anyone’s face or eyes—aim at safe targets like fences, plants, or the driveway.

This is a fun way to beat the heat, reuse plastic bottles, and learn how pump mechanisms work. Try experimenting with different bottle sizes to see which gives the longest spray!
