From Moore to Ada: Scandals Cloud Oklahoma’s Back-to-School Season

MOORE — Six Embezzlement Counts Tied to Event Ticket Cash; Affidavit Says the Money Was Gambled Away What’s alleged: Cleveland County prosecutors charged former Moore High School athletic facilitator Courtney Raegan Walker with six counts of embezzlement tied to cash from school-hosted athletics events between August 2024 and May 2025. According to court records summarized by KOCO, investigators say roughly $61,000 in event receipts never reached district accounts. Itemized estimates in the affidavit include: $13,000 (Volleyball State Championship), $20,000 (Game Day State Championship cheer event), $7,000 (6A boys regional basketball), $10,000 (5A/6A regional track meet), $4,000 (spring seven-on-seven football), plus $7,000 owed to the Lady Lions Swish Club for the Mid-America Youth Basketball tournament.

District response: Moore Public Schools says it reported the allegation to Moore Police on July 1, notifi ed the State Department of Education and an affected co-sponsor, placed Walker on administrative leave, and that Walker resigned.

What the affidavit says about where the money went: Investigators wrote that Walker said she no longer had the money and had spent it on gambling. (That claim is from the affidavit; Walker has not entered a plea in the media reports reviewed.)

What we don’t know yet: Whether any restitution agreements are being pursued; Walker’s next court date; and whether additional audits will widen or narrow the total.

PUTNAM CITY WEST — WARRANT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER; “MORE THAN 10” COUNTS OF SECOND-DEGREE RAPE What’s alleged: An arrest warrant was issued June 4, 2025 for Jacob (Jake) Doshier, a Putnam City West High School special education teacher, accusing him of multiple sexual offenses, including more than 10 counts of second-degree rape involving a student, according to Oklahoma County court documents cited by News 9. The outlet’s report also references a $50,000 bond and describes a “pattern” of criminal offenses alleged in court filings. (Students cannot consent under Oklahoma law; these remain allegations.)

District status: The News 9 reporting focuses on the criminal case; district employment actions weren’t detailed there. No official district statement has been located that adds new facts beyond the warrant and charges.

What we don’t know yet: Whether Doshier was taken into custody after the warrant, the timeline of the alleged conduct, any plea, and upcoming hearing dates (Oklahoma County court records would have the latest).

ADA — OSBI Confirms Investigation of Former Coach; Case Originated in Divorce/ Custody Filing What’s alleged: The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirms it is investigating alleged misconduct by Cody Nall, a former Ada City Schools junior high athletic coordinator and assistant coach for the high-school boys’ basketball program. The probe, requested by Chickasaw Lighthorse Police, originated from evidence presented in a divorce and child-custody case, Superintendent Mike Anderson said. Nall was placed on paid leave and then resigned on June 3, 2025. As of mid-June, no arrests or charges had been filed, OSBI told KXII.

What we don’t know yet: Whether OSBI has referred findings to a DA, whether any criminal counts will be filed, and any school-side policy changes resulting from the inquiry.

WHY THESE STORIES MATTER RIGHT NOW Back-to-school trust: These cases cut across three hot buttons for parents—cash handling and transparency, student safety and staff conduct, and how quickly districts escalate to law enforcement when something looks wrong.

What districts say they do already:

• Background checks: Oklahoma requires fingerprint- based criminal history checks for certification and for many school employees. OSDE says checks are typically valid for one year in the certifi cation pipeline and details current options and fees for school employment checks. (Background checks do not screen for future conduct or financial risk.)

• Criminal statutes: Embezzlement is defined in Title 21 and can attach when a person lawfully receives property and diverts it to an unauthorized use; penalties scale with amount and circumstances.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Moore: Six embezzlement counts; ~$61,000 in cash receipts tied to specific events; district says it alerted police/ OSDE and that the employee resigned. Affidavit claims the money was gambled. Putnam City West: Warrant issued June 4; more than 10 counts of second-degree rape alleged against a special education teacher; case pending in Oklahoma County. Ada: OSBI investigation began after divorce/custody evidence surfaced; leave then resignation (June 3); no charges to date per OSBI in mid-June.
