Erick Ramblings

Erick Ramblings

Labor Day Weekend is here and I, for one, couldn’t be happier because not only does it mean a long weekend away from work, but it also is the unofficial end to this long, hot summer and that means fall and cooler weather is on the way. Bring on the pumpkin spice because I am here for it and I know several others who are also!

Along with the Labor Day holiday, I know so many that enjoy the Elk City Rodeo that kicked off last night, Friday, 8/29. The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. this morning, Saturday, 8/30, in downtown Elk City. Tonight, 8/30, you can head out to the Elk City Rodeo at 8:00 p.m., with the final performance on Sunday, 8/31, at 8:00 p.m. that evening.

The Erick Church of Christ invites everyone to join them for a Gospel Meeting beginning on Friday, September 5th, at 7:00 p.m., and continues throughout the day on Saturday, 9/6, and Sunday, 9/7, with several topics and wellknown ministers and speakers that you surely don’t want to miss! Lunch will be served both on Saturday and on Sunday.

The Carsen Perry Memorial Junior Bull Futurity will be held on Sunday, September 7th, at 1:00 p.m., at the 6-C Arena, just a couple of miles north and one mile east of Erick. Come on out and be a part of this amazing tribute for Carsen, who is loved and missed by so many.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 21st, from 4-6 p.m. for “Ice Cream in the Park”, hooted by the Erick First Baptist church. There will be hot dogs, a bounce house, lots of fun and fellowship and of course ice cream!!

Again, Erick is also gearing up for the Purple People Eater Fest coming in September. There will be more to follow on this event in the coming issues.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Ellison Wayne Holland, of Lawton, but has several family members in or from Erick. Services were held at the Whinery Funeral Service and Cremation Chapel in Elk City last Friday, 8/22, with burial here in Erick that afternoon.

Paul Allison Parish, a member of the EHS Class of 1968, passed away on 8/20. Services were held this past Monday, 8/25, in Meridian, OK, with a private family burial later in Shamrock, TX, with military honors provided by Stephens County Honor Guard. Many of you will remember that he was the son of Viginia and Leroy Cowan, who was a minister at the Erick Church of Christ many years ago.

Happy Anniversary wishes to Tony and Susan Sanderson, who will be celebrating on 8/31 & to Gary & Paula Harris on 9/5.

Birthdays to celebrate for this issue (8/30-9/5) will be: 8/31-Dodie McIntyre, Robert Brinkley and my 10-year-old granddaughter, Lola Cox; 9/1-Cole May & Lindsay Brooks; 9/2-Norman Arrington, Amber Bussey & Michael McGuire; 9/3-Ben Tignor, Lane Snowden, Winter Nidey, Nik Rakar & David Deeds; 9/4-Nand on 9/5-Michael Vanderpoel & Sandra Wright.
