MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is proud to announce that Mr. Sheb Wooley (posthumously), celebrated musician, recording artist and actor will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame at a ceremony honoring his life in music in the Erick, Oklahoma “Purple People Eater Festival” in his hometown at 8pm, on September 27th. 2025.
Sheb grew up in the same small town in western Oklahoma, near the western border with Texas, with another famous Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Roger Miller. It is noted that both had hit songs that were humorous and thought of as quirky.
Known for his acting and film career as much as his music, Sheb released a number of fun songs, singles and albums. It was 1958 when the whimsical “Flying Purple People Eater” was released. It instantly became a number one hit song in the U.S., Western Europe, and Australia.
Several more songs followed including the fun “That’s My Pa” that came along in 1962, another Number 1 in the U.S. Sheb’s daughter Chrystie, along with other family members, will be on hand to receive his trophy and award on the outdoor stage during the Festival celebration.
