Thunder Opens Power Her Forward To Inspire And Mentor Female Basketball Players

Applications open now through Oct. 2

OKLAHOMA CITY, Friday, Sept. 19, 2025 – The Oklahoma City Thunder has opened applications for Power Her Forward, a six-month mentorship and empowerment initiative.

Designed to uplift and inspire the next generation of female leaders, Power Her Forward connects female high school basketball players with influential local role models. Through the power of sports, the program helps freshmen and sophomores build confidence, develop leadership skills, and strengthen their ties to the community. By showcasing visible female leadership, Power Her Forward aims to sustain girls’ engagement in athletics and foster a lasting impact. The program will culminate with an in-game presentation in March in recognition of Women’s History Month.

“Power Her Forward is one of the many ways the Thunder is ensuring that representation of women in sport is visible in our community,” said Michelle Matthews, Thunder director of Fan Development. “We want to inspire these athletes, instill confidence, and provide space and resources for these young women to lead their communities.”
