The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) has announced that if the federal government shutdown continues into November, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will be suspended beginning November 1.
According to OKDHS officials, funding for the program depends entirely on federal appropriations. With no budget resolution in place, there is currently no guarantee that benefits will be issued for November. The agency is urging families to plan ahead and connect with local resources in case of a temporary interruption.
October benefits were distributed as normal, but families relying on SNAP for groceries could face a sudden gap in assistance next month. OKDHS emphasized that they will notify clients as soon as funding is restored, but for now, food banks and community pantries are bracing for increased demand.
Residents in Beckham County who need immediate help can turn to local food-assistance programs listed below. Most operate on a walk-in or referral basis, and some may ask for proof of residence or ID, so it’s best to call ahead.
