Choosing Wellness: Prevention Substance Use During the Season of Gratitude

As November ushers in cooler weather and the warmth of Thanksgiving gatherings, it’s a timely moment to reflect on the importance of wellness, especially when it comes to preventing substance use in our communities.

Substance use prevention isn’t just about saying “no”; it’s about creating environments where individuals, especially youth, feel supported, informed, and empowered to make healthy choices. During the holiday season, stress, peer pressure, and increased social events can heighten the risk of substance misuse. That’s why prevention efforts are more crucial than ever.

Community coalitions, schools, and families play a vital role in fostering protective factors, like strong relationships, open communication, and access to positive activities. This month, consider hosting a prevention- themed event, sharing resources on social media, or simply starting a conversation with someone about the risks of substance use.

Let’s use this season of gratitude to invest in the health and future of our communities. Prevention is powerful, and together, we can make a difference.
