The North Fork of Red River Conservation District is proud to announce they were awarded the District Innovation Grant (DIG) for $10,000 at the annual Oklahoma Association of Conservation District’s Area IV meeting on November 20th, 2025. The Oklahoma Conservation Commission made the DIG available to all Conservation Districts in Oklahoma to implement special innovative projects that meet the district’s conservation mission and is outside of the district’s current normal course of business.
The North Fork of Red River Conservation District partnered with the Sayre Senior Citizen Center to expand the capacity of their SOAR initiative (SOAR stands for Seniors/Outreach/ Activities/Resources). Part of the initiative included a garden they started this year to provide food for the meals that are served at the Center throughout the week. The Conservation District will be purchasing a high tunnel that will expand the growing season, protect plants from the elements and pest pressure, and establish a mini classroom within city limits.
There are plans to implement intergenerational activities for youth and seniors that will enhance quality of life for Sayre residents.
If you are interested in learning more about the project or want to get involved, please contact Cassandra Ausher at the North Fork of Red River Conservation District at (580)928-3113 ext. 3019 or stop by the office at 902 NE HWY 66 Suite C, Sayre, OK 73662 from 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
