Sayre Cub Scout Pack 3662 is beginning a new chapter after officially finding a permanent home at American Legion Post 146, located at 906 N. 4th Street in Sayre. The new charter agreement marks an important step forward for the pack, providing a stable and reliable meeting place while strengthening the bond between local youth, their families, and the area’s veteran community.
The transition comes after pack leaders sought a long-term community partner that shared the core values of Scouting America and demonstrated a commitment to youth development and service. American Legion Post 146 has formally taken Pack 3662 under its charter, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership; emphasizing the importance of investing in programs that teach leadership, responsibility, and patriotism. Post 146 is continuing a long-standing tradition of veterans’ organizations supporting Scouting programs across the nation, as well as civic engagement that has benefited communities for generations and helped guide countless young people toward becoming active, responsible adults. For the Legion, the decision reflects its mission of service to the community and its dedication to shaping future generations of responsible, engaged citizens.
For Cub Scout Pack 3662 and its families, the new charter provides consistency, encouragement, and a welcoming environment focused on learning and personal development. Pack leaders expressed their appreciation to the members of Post 146 for their willingness to support the program. Having a committed charter organization allows volunteers to focus more fully on delivering a quality Scouting experience rather than worrying about logistical concerns such as securing a meeting space. The Legion Hall offers a central and accessible location, making it easier to attend meetings and participate in activities. The space also allows for hands-on learning, group games, planning sessions, and ceremonies that are an important part of the Cub Scout experience. These foster a stronger sense of belonging and pride among Scouts as they gather regularly in a space rooted in service, history, and community involvement.
Cub Scout Pack 3662 is open to children from kindergarten through fifth grade and operates as a family pack, welcoming both boys and girls. Family involvement is a cornerstone of the Cub Scout program, encouraging parents and guardians to participate alongside their children in meetings, activities, and service projects. This family- centered approach not only supports Scouts but also strengthens family bonds and reinforces lessons learned during pack activities.
In addition to its current Cub Scout program, Pack 3662 leadership hopes to expand Scouting opportunities in Sayre by establishing a Scouting troop in the future for youth in grades six through twelve. Creating a local troop would allow Scouts to continue their journey within their home community as they grow older, rather than seeking opportunities outside the area. A troop would provide older youth with expanded leadership roles, outdoor adventures, and service projects designed to prepare them for adulthood.
Scouting America programs focus on teaching practical life skills that extend well beyond weekly meetings. Through hands-on activities, outdoor experiences, and service to the community, Cubs and Scouts learn teamwork, problem-solving, responsibility, and leadership. These experiences help build confidence, resilience, and character—qualities that serve youth throughout their lives at school, at home, and eventually in the workplace.
Community service is a major focus for Pack 3662, and leaders emphasize that giving back is a key part of the Scouting experience. Scouts are actively exploring ways to help improve the community, including projects such as cleaning local parks, assisting with community events, and offering help where it is needed. These efforts allow Scouts to put the principles of service into action while making a visible, positive impact close to home.
Pack 3662 meets every week, currently on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The next Cub Scout meeting will be held on Thursday, January 22, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Meetings typically include skill-building activities, educational lessons, games, and planning for upcoming events. Scouts may also participate in special activities such as seasonal celebrations, outdoor adventures, and service opportunities that reinforce the values of Scouting America while strengthening connections within the Sayre community.
Families and community members who would like to support Cub Scout Pack 3662 are encouraged to consider sponsoring a Scout or making a donation to the pack. Contributions help cover program materials, advancement supplies, activities, and special events, ensuring that all youth have the opportunity to participate regardless of financial circumstances. Community support plays a critical role in keeping Scouting accessible and strong in Sayre. The new partnership not only provides a home for the pack but also reinforces a shared belief that investing in youth today helps build stronger families, stronger leaders, and a stronger Sayre for the future.
