Invasive Zebra Mussels Reach Tom Steed Reservoir
Invasive zebra mussels have been confirmed for the first time in Tom Steed Reservoir in Kiowa County, according to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The mussels were discovered by U.S. Bureau of Reclamation engineers during a recent routine dam inspection. A 33-year-old Elk City man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with domestic assault and battery resulting in great bodily injury. Although the charges were officially filed on May 13, the report states the investigation began in September. A 23-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $6,000 bond after being charged with maintaining a dwelling or building for keeping or selling a controlled dangerous substance. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers are concerned citizens who are trained to be the eyes and ears of the juvenile court judge. These everyday heroes interview the children, their families and anyone who has information regarding the family.
