Mooreland outlasts the Eagles
The Mooreland Bearcats spoiled the Sayre Homecoming event when they outscored the Eagles by the score of 44 to 24 last Friday evening on Eagle field. Mooreland took advantage of an Eagle fumble and a blocked punt both in the second quarter with each turnover leading to a touchdown by the Bearcats and a 20 to 0 halftime lead in the game. Mooreland scored TD’s on 6 of their 7 possessions in the game while Sayre put 3 touchdowns on the scoreboard on 3 of 3 possessions in the second half.

Elk City Elks pluck the Eagles for big district win
Local food trucks aligned the street outside of Big Elks Stadium as fans poured in to support their Big Elks. The stands were packed to cheer on Elk City in an important district game.

ECHS Cross Country Boys Advance to State Meet
Elk City High School Cross Country varsity boys earned their spot at State during the 4A Regionals at Oklahoma Bible College on October 21st. The boys ran their way to 7th place against 93 runners from 12 schools at the State qualifi er.

Fishing Report
SOUTHEAST Blue River: October 10. Elevation is normal and stable, water temperature 75°F and clear. (USGS Lake Level) Largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass good on crankbaits, jerk baits, topwater lures, and tube jigs around brush structure, channels, rocks, shorelines, and weed beds. Channel catfish fair on chicken liver, punch bait, and stinkbait around brush structure, channels, and rocks. Report submitted by Ethan Lovelace, biologist at the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area.

Sayre vs Oilers
The Sayre Eagle football team presented Coach Craig Hixon on his 50th birthday his 50th career victory as a head coach on Eagle field against the Merritt Oilers by the score of 30 to 20 last Thursday evening. Sayre took the opening kickoff and drove 52 yards in 12 running plays to put an early touchdown on the scoreboard. Jaden Mosser zipped the ball into the end zone from 3 yards out. Ayden Hendershot ran for the PAT and the score read 8 to 0 with 6:15 left in the first quarter. Mosser was on fire as he ran for 3 of the Eagles four touchdowns on the night and ended with 130 yards on 14 carries for a 9.3 yard per carry average.

Sayre vs Fairview
The Sayre Eagles made the long road trip to Fairview last Friday evening where they were soundly defeated by the # 1 team in class A, Yellowjackets, by the score of 69 to 8. The powerful Yellowjacket team rolled up 242 yards rushing and 257 yards passing against the Eagles as they scored in every quarter of the contest. The Eagles’ pile driving running back, Ayden Hendershot had a good performance against the # 1 team when he rammed ahead 35 times for 154 yards and a 4.4 yard per carry average. Hendershot scored the Eagles only touchdown on a one yard plunge late in the fourth quarter following a ten play march that began on the Sayre 28 yard line. Camden Plummer tacked on the 2 point PAT giving the Eagles their 8 points for the night.

CASA of Western Oklahoma Training Classes Begin October 30th
CASA of Western Oklahoma is dedicated to improving the lives of the children in the Oklahoma foster care system in Beckham, Custer, Dewey, Roger Mills, and Washita Counties. Our specially trained volunteers strive to become a positive, stable influence for children while ensuring they have a voice in the courts and the services they need for a stable future.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family Ray Dean Sites, whose service was held this past Monday, 10/9, at the Beckham County Activity Barn in Sayre. Ray Dean was raised in the Sweetwater-Mayfield area and graduated from Sweetwater Public School.
