Pursuit ends in officer-involved shooting near Canute
Anincidentthatbeganasapursuitand searchforamaninElkCityendedsouthofCanute Friday afternoon when the man crashed and threatened officers with a gun. Officers initially began looking for the man after reports indicated that he made threats at a local business in southeast Elk City. Reports also indicated that the man struck a couple on a motorcycle in that area causing them to crash. Sheriff Derek Manning said the pursuit and shooting incident are still under investigation, and multiple agencies, including his, were involved, so few details are available at this time. “No officers were hurt in the shooting, and the suspect is deceased,” said Manning. “This office and others will release more information as it becomes available and appropriate to release.” 05/16/2023 11:00 PM

Elk City Track & Field saw four athletes take the podium at the OSSAA 3A-4A State Track & Field Meet in Ardmore this weekend. Junior Remi Murray tied for third place in the 4A girls pole vault with a jump of 10 feet, 6 inches. Junior Cooper Garbarino also placed third in the 4A boys pole vault with a jump of 13 feet. But unlimited, unwise choices are exhausting and produce bondage rather than freedom and contentment. We generally assume that the increased options provided by American prosperity, allowing us to choose exactly what we want, will always guarantee greater happiness.
