Beckham Health Department to host Beckham County Community Baby Shower

Supplies for children up to 5 available, and single fathers encouraged to join

Alecia Malson, a community health worker for the Oklahoma Southwest Districts for Beckham, Greer, and Washita Counties, is excited to announce the upcoming Beckham County Community Baby Shower.

The shower will be held from 1-4 pm at the Western Technology Center located in Elk City on September 15.

The Elk City WTC is located at 301 Western Drive, near Tractor’s Supply and Circle A Western Wear.

Malson wants to invite all Beckham County residents and the surrounding counties. She put a special emphasis on single fathers.

“Single fathers sometimes don’t want to ask for help sometimes,” she said. “But, we know that many families and children are being taken care of by single fathers, and we want to make sure that they know that we are here to serve them, as well, and that we commend them for being hands-on to take care of all our area children. We also know that many caregivers are grandparents, aunts, uncles, and extended family. We want to ensure everyone knows they are wanted at our event.”

Malson also stated that the baby shower is for newborns, infants, and older children.

“We are calling this shower for children from the age of birth to 5,” she added.

Some of the supplies that will be available are Pampers diapers, hygienic supplies, hand sanitizers, soaps, and more.

Donations are still needed.

“We can take anything from more Pampers to wipes, but one of the things that can come in very handy is monetary donations and gift cards,” Malson advised.

Malson, a child passenger safety technician, said that car seat checks will be available to ensure caregivers that their children’s car seats are properly installed for maximum safety.

“Of course, no one ever wants to be in a car collision, especially with a small child in the car,” she said. “But, proper car seats and instillation have proven to improve outcomes repeatedly.”

WIC signups, other resources, and poor prizes will be available.

Donations can be taken to the Western Oklahoma Family Care Center, a 609 West E Avenue non-profit organization. WOFC Director Liberty MacArthur can assist with donations.

“We had 65 families last year and hope to have as many this year,” Malson said.
