MARVIN DUNLAP

Marvin, known to most as Leroy, attended school in Nebraska and Berlin, Oklahoma and started 3rd grade at Sayre where he graduated from Sayre High School. He attended Sayre Junior College on a baseball scholarship and during the basketball season he officiated basketball games. Leroy worked for Brown’s Grocery several years and Hampton Chevrolet Company. He met the love of his life, Peggy Thompson and they were married January 27, 1962. Leroy was called to serve his country in June of 1962 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri boot camp and then was stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. After serving his term with the 3rd Army Division, Leroy started to work for the Public Service Company of Oklahoma and retired after 30 years. He served on the Board for Sayre Public Schools and Sayre Junior College for 17 years. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Sayre Fire Department for 20 years. Leroy’s favorite hobbies included taking trips with Peggy, being an avid quail hunter and fisherman, raising black angus cattle, drinking coffee with the guys, and being a sports enthusiast. He loved to watch his boys play ball, especially baseball. If there was a college or professional game on TV, Leroy was watching it.
