LARRY ELLISON

Born on November 13, 1932, to D.B. and Ruth Dial Ellison in Spring Creek, Larry was the eldest of four siblings. He attended school at Ocina, graduating in 1950. He continued his education at Sayre Junior College on a baseball scholarship, He married his high school sweetheart, Leah Joan Hood on October 9, 1953 at her family’s home.
Shortly after their quick honeymoon, Larry was drafted in the Army, serving at Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Fort Hood, Texas. After breaking his leg and spending 89 days in the hospital, he was sent home following the peace treaty with Korea. He also served in the National Guard.
Larry later worked for Beckham County and continued his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), where his first child, Susanne, was born. After completing his degree, the family moved to Roswell, New Mexico, where he taught and worked several part-time jobs. While there, two more children, Lisa and David, were born.
Larry received his Master’s Degree in Portales, New Mexico, before moving the family back to their roots in Oklahoma. he served as superintendent at Reed, Carter, Arnett, and Custer City before retiring. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Joan, moved to Elk City where he also worked as an auctioneer, dedicated time to farming and ranching, and was a long time member of the 2nd & Adams Church of Christ.
In retirement, Larry and Joan spent their time traveling in their RV, making it a point to attend their grandchildren’s ballgames, and spending their winter in Arizona.
Larry is survived by his three children, Susanne Silk, and husband, Charles, Sayre, OK, Lisa Stewart and husband, Keith, Ft. Worth, TX, and David Ellison, Covington, GA; his grandchildren, Ashley Waddell and husband, Ryan, Piedmont, OK, Carson Silk and wife, Deana, Kingfisher, OK, LaCee Wheat and husband, Clint, Keller, TX, Tanner Stewart and wife, Shelby, Oklahoma City, OK; his great grandchildren, Finley and Macy Waddell, Crew and Brooklyn Silk, Briggs, Tripp and Hayes Wheat, and Brettleigh and Bryer Stewart; great great granddaughter, Paislee Waddell and a host of other relatives and friends.
