Wildlife License Modernization Act Signed by Governor
The Oklahoma Wildlife License Modernization Act was signed into law March 26 by Gov. Kevin Stitt after it previously passed the state House of Representatives and Senate. The measure streamlines and simplifies hunting and fishing licenses, and will provide funding for the Wildlife Conservation Department primarily by adjusting license costs to regional averages.

SW Farm and Home Expo BBQ Cook-Off Looks for Entries
The annual Southwest Farm and Home Expo is right around the corner, on April 13th and 14th, at the Elk City Civic Center. Randy Smith is calling for all BBQ experts to enter the cookoff . Friday, April 12th, at 6 p.m., is the cook’s meeting, in which all forms and entry fees are due. The meat inspection will also happen at this meeting.

Crematory Concerns Spark Planning and Zoning Board Hearing and Final Decision
Elk City’s Chris Whinery’s recent permit request concerning the construction of a crematory was the only item on the agenda at the Tues, March 26th, Elk City Planning and Zoning Board, at 6 p.m., in City Hall. The area has been zoned C-2, Highway Commercial and Commercial Recreation District, since 1995. The issue became under scrutiny with a written protest from Richard and Tammy Dugger of Martin – Dugger Funeral Home. After hearing from both sides of the proposed construction, the board voted to approve a crematory being located in a C-2 Highway Commercial and Commercial Recreation zoning.

There will be a Kids Cruise, part of the Erick OK Route 66 Renewal program, that will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, 4/6. Registration will begin at 8:30. Cruises will be either a 1/2 mile or 1 mile distance. All “wheels” will be accepted including bikes, strollers, wagons, or training wheels and all ages are welcome also.
