Beckham County Fire Departments respond to Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma fires
Massive fires broke out on Tuesday across the Texas Panhandle and several Oklahoma counties that border the state. Because of the chaos, multiple communities and two states plagued by the fire, it is still unclear how many acres burned. The highest report that this reporter has seen as of 10 pm on Wednesday was approximately 850,000 acres, but that official was clear that it really cannot be known. The cause of the fire or fires is also not yet known. One report indicated thirteen homes were burned on the Oklahoma side, but again, that number is not confirmed. The number of confi rmed homes on the Texas side will be larger, but no numbers are coming out of that.

Identical Twins
John the Apostle really knew the love of Jesus, and describes a believer’s exact likeness to Christ in a letter to the churches he pastored. About salvation he says, “In union with Christ, love is brought to completion…so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment. We can face Him with assurance and boldness, because as He is, so are we also in this world.” (1 John 4:17) We are like Jesus, without ever becoming Him.

FOUNDATION OF FREEDOM
On Presidents’ Day, we honor those founding fathers who built the groundwork of our democracy. George Washington, our first President, gave us our foundation. The many Presidents who have followed him continue to strengthen that foundation. Equally important, the Bible gives us our spiritual foundation; though our country grows and changes, God’s Word remains the same. “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Cor 3:17). Worship this week and praise God for the foundation of freedom that we have been given.
